The European Registrars Conference 2018 was the biennial gathering of museum registrars, held to discuss subjects affecting the care and movement of collections. In 2018 it was hosted by the UK Registrars Group in London.

Heighten attended, and met partners from around the world.

The programme covered law, collection management, insurance and the effect of technology on the sector. Logistics was well represented, with talks on packaging, couriers, air freight and cooperation. Case studies included the first travelling show in Saudi Arabia, presented by Erika Franek of LACMA, Paul Williamson of Constantine, and Tina Sullivan of Masterpiece.

Talking outside an active project matters in this work. Museum collections differ widely, and the practical details differ with them.

Heighten left the conference intending to deepen those relationships, and later attended the registrars’ meeting in Philadelphia in 2019.
